So this place is small enough and dead enough that we can probably condense all the miscellaneous stuff into one thread. /1701/ over on 420chan has a thread that you just bump whenever you're watching a relevant thing, that would be cool to do here.

Anyway, I'll start:

>Ariel
This was a pretty generic OVA from the late '80s, which was exactly what I was looking for. It was directed by Jun`ichi, who I wish had done some more stuff.

I'm more surprised by a writing credit to Sasamoto Yuuichi, who has also done Venus Wars and Mouretsu Pirates.

I just watched Wings of Honneamise. I don't know if it counts, but it was absolutely beautiful.

Funny, I'm watching Sousei no Aquarion or whatever the right title is, and I just keep thinking "This looks like trash". You sort of have to see it in motion, but the CG is really, really bad.

Is it enjoyable, though? I don't mind terrible visuals as long as it's fun.

Pic not really related, since it both looks fine and is fun. In the recent torrent debacle, I realized I never got around to grabbing OZC's King Gainer. I've dredged up a link to it now, but it's quite a pain to get given mega's rate-limiting. The effort of acquisition has given it such inherent value that it's skipped to the top of my backlog. I'm only 3 episodes in, but it's pretty enjoyable so far - it feels very much poured from the same mold as Eureka Seven. I'm hoping Tomino stays closer to Xabungle than to Gundam with it.

Some of the monster of the week episodes are pretty fun, especially for the absurdity of the solution (somewhere around episode 3 they have to figure out how to walk without gravity, and their explanation is too good to spoil). That sort of thing sticks around long enough that, by the time the show gets serious, you might as well finish it.

That sounds at least worth a watch.

Also, I appear to have been completely correct about the Eureka Seven comparisons. The last 20 minutes were sappier than just about anything I've ever seen.
..

I'm watching Ideon for the the thing VF-kun is doing over on 4chan's /m/. I've been meaning to get around to it for a while, and this gives me an excuse.

...which is probably exactly why he's doing this, I guess.
..

Man, all you guys are talking about good shows, and I'm watching Chargeman Ken.
..

Is this site back now?

>Yamato
I should have watched this years ago of course. I'm trying the approach of VF-Kun's threads on 4 and watching one episode a day.
..

I just started watching Heavy Object. I'm three episodes in and I don't hate it.

Well that was pretty reasonable for a late 2010s show. There was a bit too much CG, and it got a bit silly in parts (pic related), but I enjoyed it. I'd compare it to Starship Operators.
..

Zoids Wild has been enjoyably dumb enough so far.

I finally got around to watching Megalo Box. The ending felt slightly disjointed, but I can sort of buy it from the perspective of “this is a celebratory what-if, so we're going to cut it off when X happens, while we still have a certain mood”. Still, I did get a bit of whiplash from comparing the ends of episodes 11 and 13.

I seem to recall that 4/m/ gave up on a show about power armor since the gimmick was “but actually no power armor”, but I didn't mind so much.
..

yeah megalobox was cool
did they ever do a good release of it or was it only that 480p thing
..

I have 720 from HorribleSubs that I grabbed while it was airing, and it looks like there was also 1080 on some of the Nyaas. I don't think there are BDs yet.
..

yeah there were releases in the higher digits at the time but iirc they're upscales from 480p for unclear reasons, like the show was only released as 480 and the official outlets upscaled it
..

Makes sense. The few times I had it in full resolution, I figured they were just not-quite succeeding at an older style with thicker lines.
..

seems they wanted a retro "standard def widescreen digipaint" look
which is kinda makes sense for the visual style of the show's world, but it's still an uncommon choice in retro visual

I just started watching Dallos. Given that it's “Oshii does The Moon is a Harsh Mistress”, I wasn't expecting pic related. I'm not going to complain, of course.

;_;

Anyone enjoying Gridman?
..

>48
yeah it's been good enough

I got up to the bits about she's a god or something, caught some of that. The part with the bad guy at the restaurant and he's all "`sup" was fun.
..

I'm finding Gridman pretty interesting. I get the feeling that the last few episodes are going to make or break it, though.

Thanks for posting this OP, that screenshot sold me on it.
Gonna give it a go.

Just got back from the Macross Plus movie. I'm glad I went - it was impressive on a big screen even at low resolution and with a bit of a wonky sound setup.

On the way home I realized that with reversed name ordering, "Apple Sharon" is pretty close to a pun on "Application".
..

yeah honestly M+ might be where I draw the line on Fathom barring some specific gaggle of people in the irls
the dvd-vision I expected, but Information High out of some random tinny speaker in the upper right was like, the fuck
